On the European Day of Protest for Equality of People with Disabilities, our peer advisor Xiao Zhen gladly provided a lecture entitled “Enabling participation – strengthening self-determination” at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences Munich (KSH Munich) as a part of the lecture series and panel discussion organized by the association Donna Mobile AKA e.V. in cooperation with Aktion Mensch on the topic of “Labour market integration of refugees and women affected by FGM/C – between participation, recognition and structural barriers”. The event was dedicated to the particular challenges faced by women affected by FGM/C – from health and psychosocial consequences to the question of legal recognition of a disability. Mr. Zhen contributed to the lively discussion with his perspective on counselling from the Charter 22 EUTB and also highlighted the opportunities and limitations of EUTB counselling with regard to support for women affected by FGM/C. In addition, he emphasized the existing potential for cooperation between the actors in the support social system and highlighted the relevance and necessity of good and efficient networking. Finally, Mr. Zhen answered all questions from the audience. He found the event extremely enriching and broadened the horizons of all participants. Charter 22 has been looking forward to further collaborations.
