A heartfelt thanks to all our wonderful highly educated and experienced female participants with a refugee background from Ukraine for the valuable time we spent together that has been characterised not only by intensive, inclusive and practical learning, but also by mutual kindness, humanity, goodwill and harmonious cooperation.
We perceived the punctuality, diligence, self-discipline, perseverance, solidarity, authenticity, courage and character demonstrated by the participants on a daily basis as unique and magnificent qualities of the Ukrainian people, which deserved our high respect, admiration, recognition and appreciation.
“Success has two letters: DO.”, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe wrote brilliantly.
“Love and compassion are the foundations of world peace – at every level.
There are only two days in the year when you cannot do anything. One is yesterday, the other is tomorrow. This means that today is the right day to love, to believe and, above all, to live.
Judge your successes by what you had to give up to achieve them.“,
the 14th Dalai Lama teaches us wisely.
By effectively adapting the German language, IT, specialist skills and knowledge that participants had already acquired abroad to the requirements of Bavarian employers – through a well-structured, varied and targeted programme – we have genuinely improved the participants’ real prospects as skilled workers in the Bavarian primary labour market and actively promoted their socio-economic integration and equal participation in society. The subsequent recruitment of the participants as accountants in a local authority, a tax consultancy, an IT company, etc., speaks for itself.
Through our ESF+ in Bavaria funded project ‘Bavaria Needs You-2’ and with the means of education, empowerment, mentoring, coaching and social care we have continuously and actively supported our participating unemployed women with a refugee background from Ukraine in overcoming their existing everyday work-related German language deficits and numerous social challenges such as finding accommodation, childcare and support, trauma, loss of loved ones, anxiety, longing, etc. Thereby, we enabled them to achieve socially equitable career prospects in Bavaria, so that they can realise their professional potential as qualified payroll accountants in the Greater Munich area and thereby secure their livelihoods in the long term through their own efforts and resources.
The EU’s European Social Fund therefore invests in people who do not have the same opportunities for self-fulfilment in life and on the labour market because they find themselves in a socially disadvantaged position – as is the case with refugees – compared with the opportunities for professional and social participation available to the local population. In doing so, the ESF+ pursues the worthy goal of contributing to a more social Europe and putting the European Pillar of Social Rights into practice (not just in beautiful speeches).
